Samarkand

Legendary UNESCO designated Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in the world and the most fabled stop on the Silk Road, with the stunning Registan Square at its heart will be a magnet for your camera. Follow in the footsteps of Alessandra the Great to uncover this 2750-year-old city and the site where he met his first wife, and marvel at what later became the capital of the mighty Timur’s empire. Today Samarkand is a proud mix of old and new, and silk weaving remains on display at local workshops whilst the Siab Bazaar offers a chance to shop for local fruits, spices and the famous Samarkand bread.
